Jun 26, 2016 In this free tutorial, Paul Drew explains how to use Event FX in Studio One 3.2.
There are some things I would like my controller to do, that the default mappings for VDJ8 just doesn't meet my preferences. One member on the forum (Dj Dad), advised me to give specific details of what I want each knob and button to do, on my controller, and post it, so that I would be helped to map my controller. Numark 4trak djay pro. Well, it took me quite some time to come up with a list of actions I would like for each knob and button on my controller, but I eventually managed to complete the list.
| I've just been experimenting with Event FX on an audio track, cutting the track into small sections and adding delays, flangers, etc to individual sections, which is a great way of creating dub style effects on drums hits or short phrases. I tried to add some automation to one of the delays (so it would speed up after the hit) but although the FX dialogue shows the hand icon I can't drop it anywhere to create an automation envelope/lane. Is there some other way to achieve this, with out having to use sends or moving the effected section to it's own track? Thanks. S1 Pro 3.5 Windows 7 64bit i7 4790k + 16G + SSD. Audient iD14 |
| No, unfortunately not. There's a feature request however: Can we please have the abilty to automate event fx?? OS: Windows 10 Pro HW: P9X79 • i7 3930K • 16GB • 3x EVO 860 • AMD Radeon HD6450 (@WQHD) • RME AIO |

- Aug 28, 2019 In Studio One, transposing and tuning are a part of the same set of advanced algorithms as timestretching, so the quality is extremely high. To transpose any audio Event, select it and open the Inspector by pressing F4 on the keyboard or clicking on the Inspector button above the Track Column.
- Aug 26, 2019 In studio one, it only takes a couple steps to achieve this effect. Using Event FX, stock plugins, and a few easy keyboard shortcuts, you can make the ghostly haunted effect of reverse reverb.
- Studio One Professional 4.5 is the DAW that facilitates flow. It does this by preserving the good things from traditional studio equipment and workflows, and by turning everything else on its head. From its unique single-screen workflow with drag-and-drop functionality to its multitouch support, Studio One is a performance-ready idea machine.
- Music is our life. PreSonus is our day job. Powered by Zendesk.
- Studio One ® 4 was designed with ease of use at its core. For ten years now, it has seamlessly combined the time-tested and proven recording studio model with today’s beat- and loop-oriented production process—so you can bring musical ideas to sonic reality more quickly than ever before.
- Just ran into this problem with Studio One 3. Event FX are not available on merged audio clips. The solution is to select the clip, right click, and chose Dissolve Audio Part. After that, Event FX will be available again.
| Not sure if it is even possible. Effects are based on delays and changing delays 'mid-flight' will create gaps and/or overlaps. Either way it will probably sound horrible |
| niles wroteNo, unfortunately not. There's a feature request however: Can we please have the abilty to automate event fx?? Ok thanks - I've added my vote. Not sure if it is even possible. Effects are based on delays and changing delays 'mid-flight' will create gaps and/or overlaps. Either way it will probably sound horrible I've been doing this for years in other DAW's with out issue (on sends), as long as you use a suitable plugin. You need to use one that has smooth transition of delay time, so a beat synced delay is out (unless you want a stepped effect). Also on some VST's the time transition is really glitchy and sounds horrible even when not in sync mode. Early I was doing this in S1 with the analog delay plugin on a send and automated the delay time and HPF cutoff and managed to get a reasonably effective simulation of Mad Professor on a RE201. But it will surely never match getting the knobs grubby on the real thing S1 Pro 3.5 Windows 7 64bit i7 4790k + 16G + SSD. Audient iD14 |
| Maybe split the track(s), have different effects on both sides and automate the crossfade? |
| SwitchBack wroteMaybe split the track(s), have different effects on both sides and automate the crossfade? Yeah, that's another way I've done it in the past on previous DAW's. Trouble is you then have two tracks that you need to level, eq, process, etc the same so you end up putting them all through a bus and doing it there. Which is fine but is a bit of a workflow killer, especially when you've a whole bunch of sections you want to effect differently - it soon can get a bit out of hand with loads of bus and send channels. The potentially great thing about Event FX is you could avoid all this extra clutter. I've been using Samplitude previous to S1 and one of my favorite features is it's object editor / FX which does exactly what we are talking about - including automation on object FX. [Unfortunately it's let down in a good number of other areas which makes the workflow at times horrible - which is why I'm really enjoying S1] S1 Pro 3.5 Windows 7 64bit i7 4790k + 16G + SSD. | create a bus, use all your fx you want in this bus, automate the bypass to have a fx just for this single event. name thhe automation lane that you understand it uis for the single event. --> no reason to have event automations.. | Michael1985 wrotecreate a bus, use all your fx you want in this bus, automate the bypass to have a fx just for this single event. I get were your'e coming from. Trouble is - if I want to use multiple fx plugins with varying settings on a single track I end up with lots of automation lanes for the bypassing / fades and parameter changes and (in my experience) becomes a bit messy (even when using sensible names) and hard to keep a track of what's what. Multiply that across a number of tracks .. Having event fx do this means it all contained in the event itself. You can see what's happening quickly and you can move / copy / split etc the events and know the fx and automation thereof will follow. No need to worry about what's happening in the bus / automation lanes. everything stays much more 'contained' and in my mind easier to deal with. It also allows easy creation of faded transition of fx, so if you want a flanger to fade in and out of a section just drop it in on the event and crossfade. Takes a lot less effort than setting up automation of the dry/wet mix or whatever. And it's also easier to edit the fade points later. S1 Pro 3.5 Windows 7 64bit i7 4790k + 16G + SSD. Audient iD14 |
| Another work around (still uses extra track though) is to use Event FX that support MIDI input (like the e.g. NI, Melda, Uhe etc. plugs). This way you can control the Event FX with an Instrument Part from a track pointing to the Event FX device. Yeah - that's a bit easier to deal with - at least the automation will be in a part and stay contained. Thanks for the tip - will give it a go with the U-he fx. | When I try to single out a certain part of a recording in studio one and put an effect on it, the effect is applied to the entire recording, not just to the part I want the effect on. I usually ending seperating a part of the recording and put on a seperate track. Does anyone know how to put on an effect for just a short part of a recording without it affecting the entire thing like can be done in other DAW's. |

| You can use track automation. This can be used for almost anything, like volume, pan, any effect, or any single parameter of the effect. When you adjust any parameter of an effect, look at the top left part of your screen. In a dark box, you'll see a little icon of a hand. Drag that hand onto the track, and voila! You'll have an automation track, which you can use to adjust the level of the parameter (or overall level) of the effect. If this is not entirely clear, I suggest the free tutorials by Johnny Geib. Just google his name, and look through the videos, and find one related to 'automation'. He explains it all really nicely. Also see: 'Event FX' This lets you put an effect on only one part of a track. (With automation, you could have your automation curve at '0' everywhere except where you need it, but with Event FX, the effect only applies to a section of a track that you have selected. | Meh, I don't like using automation in these spots. I'd much prefer to highlight the section of the clip that I want to apply processing to, 'split clip at selection' and then apply the effect to that clip. You have to enable clip-based processing first.. | You certainly can apply effects to an individual audio event on a whole track. First separate that section of audio out using the knife tool. It will either be cut on the grid the or cut close to. (set snap accordingly if you have to make fine cuts) Then open the inspector (F4) and select that particular audio event. On the left you can now insert an effect just over the selected section of audio. Simple as that, very handy and cool. When the separate audo event is selected you will see Event FX TAB with ENABLE next to it. Click on ENABLE and the FX bin for just that segment will drop down. You can now insert any effect in there. See section 6.11.1 on page 93 of the V2 reference manual. You can also render the effect into that piece of audio as well and free up CPU resources of that is an issue for you. | Thanks. This vid was very helpful. I've also been looking for a way to do this. | Thanks for the help guys. It's very simple now that I know how to do it. Awesome |
| Now when I try to use the Event FX in the Inspector tool, the effect goes to the whole track rather than just to the section selected. I must have unintentionally enabled or disabled something. It worked before but now I can only apply the FX to the whole track. Anyone else experince this? | Why does everyone make it so hard? Just create a new audio track without any effects, record or whatever, then open 'effects' and drag the desired one on top of the track and release! Simpler! |
| He wants to put audio plugins on a clip, not on the track. Drag and drop with a modifier directly to a clip or multiple clips at once and also open up the Event FX chain directly from the clip. There's never any need to go to the clip inspector for that. P.S. There's been an action Insert Event FX for awhile so you could easily, for example, make a macro to drop an EQ on a section of an audio clip. - Split - Insert Event FX - Create Crossfades If you draw a range it will split the range and put the EQ plugin on that section. If you select a clip normally it will ignore the split command and still insert the EQ on the clip. |
